Description
An extraordinary piece from about 1900, completely handmade including the lace, that is rich and substantial. Made by the famous late 19th century fashion designer, W.R. Amory of Detroit. There is alink
to his obituary on google. at newspapers. com. which details his career starting in Detroit, but becoming so successful that his custom
clothes were eventually sold all over the country. It is a two-piece wedding outfit in exquisite handmade lace on net in several different styles. The skirt is very useable while the top requires restoration. You might choose to use only the skirt with a slip or petticoat and a different modern top - this could be sensational!
The skirt has a substantial train in the back supported with pretty trimmed tulle. It was completely lined with silk taffeta but that is gone in the skirt and deteriorated in in the top, so needs replacing. It has two layers of gorgeous silk crepe that are still intact. The crepe has a few holes but is salvageable. There is one hole in the lace of the skirt.
There are some issues with a complicated closure in the back of the top. Most notably there is a rip in the silk tulle treatment in the center of the back of the top (see photo).
Skirt: front length - 38”, back length including train - 60”, waist - 26”
Top: waist - 26”, bust - 32”, length - 18”, across shoulder - 28”
