    Description

Rare rococo bodice, ca. 1760. Origin: Germany. Made of green light-changing silk, which is finely ribbed. As a pattern are woven vines, flowers and leaves, which with a little imagination resemble bows. No corset stays. The top is lined with linen on the inside. The sleeves are lined with a printed cotton fabric. The top was probably worn with a breast plug (stomacher). We laced the top in the front - and were surprised by the elegant result. Small peplum, in the style of Pierrot jackets of the time. Pierrot means "sparrow" in French. Thanks to the strong emphasis on the chest and the small peplum in the back, women looked like "little birds". The association with the sparrow was then (perhaps) obvious. Very well preserved. Jewelry, pocket square/lace scarf and cords are not included.
